Frequently Asked Questions
How long must I commit to working with a coach?
Three months is the usual initial commitment. Often, though, people find coaching is even more beneficial than they expected and decide to continue with their coach for a longer time—typically about nine months to a year. I ask for a three- to six-month commitment up front, but can usually be flexible about stopping if coaching is not working for you right now.
What is the goal of a coaching engagement?
The objective is to focus on your potential (your unrealized ability, capacity, or possibility) by leveraging your strengths, uncovering what’s in your way, and targeting the areas you are most interested in addressing to help you reach your goals more effectively and live your authentic life.
What about confidentiality?
What happens in our sessions stays in our sessions.
I fully understand the value of your trust, and we take every reasonable precaution to safeguard it. We will provide you with a detailed description of the ethical code that governs every client-coach relationship we enter. This document not only places our standards before you in plain text, but also codifies my commitment to you as my client, and your progress.
Shouldn’t I be able to reach my goals on my own?
We’ve been taught that “hard work and doing it on your own” are the keys to finding life, success, money, or happiness. Most people believe they must sacrifice something to attain what they want. Some people sacrifice their health, their time to enjoy life, or their relationships. None of this is necessary! You can have it all—just maybe not all right this minute. And, with life coaching, you’ll find you don’t have to sacrifice anything to get what you want. You may need to change a few things, true, but clients typically find they have more time with their families and friends, more money, more opportunities, and are more successful at work or in their businesses when they work with a professionally trained coach—whether that is a business coach, a personal coach, an executive coach, or a life coach. Athletes, performers, CEOs and presidents all know that they can’t do it alone. They know a trained professional or team of experts can help them determine the best direction while providing objective support and feedback.
No athlete would consider going to the Olympics without the support of a coach. The extra edge the coach provides makes all the difference. Why shouldn’t you have this same advantage in your own personal and professional life?
Where does the life coach focus with a typical client?
We focus where you as the client want us to focus—your goals are our goals. Although we might have some radical suggestions for ways you can reach those goals more quickly. Sometimes, in order to be more successful in business, you need to do some personal work. So don’t be surprised if you get some personal assessments and quizzes.
